The Benefits of Running Off-Road

About a week ago (18th July 2011), an article surfaced on The New York Times websites titled “For Runners, Soft Ground Can Be Hard on the Body.” I saw the link on the Letsrun website, and thought I’d give it a read. I’m always curious to see what journalists have to say about whats better for runners, mainly because you never know exactly how much running they do, or have done, themselves. Not to mention how seriously they actually took their running.


I printed out the article, and sat down with highlighter in hand to read through the article and partially dissected it. I planned on comparing the contents, and context, to what I know from being a long distance runner and having averaged probably 140-150km per week over the last eight-to-nine years. Bearing in mind that I have had one major injury, way back in 2002 - Achilles tendinopathy - and means I do have a biased point of view.

Another week down which brings me one week closer to hopping on the plane to Korea. We were blessed with a beautiful week up here, while there was still the usual cool breeze, we had ALOT of sunshine.
We have been in Daegu for just over a week now, more of the Australian team as well as teams from other countries so the atmosphere is growing.
