Swimming Laps, Sally and a Sad Week for World Sport...

I’ve been doing a fair bit of swimming lately as I build up to a full training program. I’ve been in the pool around 5 times a week and doing a range of sessions. I don’t do pool running or anything like that, I just stick to the stock stroke of freestyle.

I seem to get my heart rate up quite high (170-190bpm) by doing short, sharp efforts off a small recovery. By no means am I turning into a James Magnussen, an Eamon Sullivan, or even a Ryk Neethling, but I’m getting a little better each week. I’d usually be doing bike work for cross training but since my last injury was caused on a bike I’m steering well clear of it and doing the hard yards up and down the lanes of the University of Wollongong Pool.

I’m back in State College after a 16 hour travel day yesterday that involved a flight to Pitt via Phoenix and then a car ride home. I had an awesome couple of days on the Canadian west coast and I’ll fire off a quick recap.

A big thank you to everyone who offered me support and advice over the last few days. It’s been a pretty wild ride.
