Moore action at NSW championships

Commonwealth Games relay gold medalist Kevin Moore has bounced back to form following a disappointing run at last weekend's Sydney Track Classic to take out the 400m at the NSW championships.

Rejuvenated after overcoming a virus which weakened him last weekend, Moore clocked a time of 46.17 second. The performance was just four-hundredths of a second outside of his personal best set last year.

Filling in the minor places were strong performances from David Burke (46.49), Alex Carew (46.63) and Paul Cummings (46.74).

A 2:45 opening kilometre from defending champion Russell Dessaix-Chin blew apart the field in the men's 10000m, with Dessaix-Chin eventually lapping the entire field to win in 29:35.80. In ninth place, 55-year-old Keith Bateman's run of 31:51.86 took 35 seconds off the previous world best for his age group.

Matt Hammond shook of his bridesmaid status in the men's 800m with a commanding performance seeing him cross the line eight-tenths of a second ahead of Victoria's Edward Vining. Leading through the bell in 55.67 seconds, Hammond showed the field a clean pair of heels, negatively splitting to take out the race in 1:50.27. Sianne Toemoe won the women's 800m, similarly recording a negative split (63.75 seconds) on her way to a 2:05.68 victory ahead of Victoria's Erica Fountain (2:06.27) and Kelly Young (2:06.90).

The men's 100m was won by Uzodinma Anthony Alozie in 10.48 seconds (+0.0 m/s), while Laura Whaler won the women's event in 11.87 seconds (-0.4 m/s).

In the field world champion Dani Samuels continued her flirtation with the 60 metre barrier this season, taking out the discus with a throw of 58.10m. Laura Cornford took out the women's javelin in 56.50m, whilst Samoa's Emmanuele Fuamatu launched the shot 18.46m to defeat 47-year-old Stuart Gyngell (17.27m).
