Jeremy Roff and Laura Whaler had to survive two blanket finishes in thrilling finales to the NSW Athletic Championships at Homebush.

Roff battled to the line to win his fourth state 1500m title in 3mins50.41secs from Lachlan Chisholm (3m50.48s), Josh Wright (3m50.72s) and Victorian Mark Fountain (3m50.95s) on Sunday.

"I wasn't game to look around over the last 50 metres and I knew I had to do my best once I got past Lachlan who led almost to the line," Roff said.
