Williams lunged and hung on for the narrowest of wins in today's Stawell Gift final despite ripping his hamstring almost on the line.

The Queenslander in white stumbled his way over the line after his right hamstring gave way in the last five metres of a dramatically close race, finishing in 12.11 seconds from the lightening favourite, Ed Ware of Sydney.

Ware, came just two hundreths of a second behind at in at 12.13, after starting the backmarker at 10.25 metres.
